Vincent Dupas – formerly of My Name Is Nobody – very French – very mellow.
Back over to France tonight for a session from Vincent Dupas (aka: My Name Is Nobody) in a Sun Session recorded at St. Nazaire on December 19, 2019.
Never ceases to amaze what you find, when you hit browse and leave the options open.
Here is a bio via French Wikipedia, which is “sort of” gist translation, but you get the drift.
Vincent Dupas performed under the name My Name Is Nobody from 2005 to 2018, releasing six studio albums, two EPs , and a live album on the labels Collectif Effervescence, Havalina Records, and My Little Cab Records. Drawing on influences from 1990s American folk and indie rock, from Will Oldham to Smog and Sebadoh , Dupas carved his own path in this music of wide-open spaces. He performed over 1,000 concerts across Europe, North America, and Southeast Asia
In 2006, for the release of his first album, he gave a notable performance at the La Route du Rock Festival in Saint-Malo , replacing Micah P. Hinson at the last minute. He returned to the festival for its winter edition in 2015 for the release of his album Safe Travel , recorded in Chicago with members of Dark Dark Dark and Pillars & Tongues; this tour took him as far as Southeast Asia.
In 2014, following a long stay in Chicago, he recorded an instrumental music album under the name Serpentine; on this occasion, he played at the Atlantique Jazz Festival in Brest in 2015.
In parallel, Dupas plays in the experimental rock groups Fordamage (3 albums, 400 concerts) and Binidu (2 albums with the duo Pneu) which are released by the Nantes-based label Kythibong. He also participates in numerous recordings as a musician, and sings a repertoire of western swing with the Hawaiian Pistoleros (1 EP, 1 album) .
In 2019, he released his first album under his own name, Longue Distance , which marked his first time singing in French. The EP Bout du Monde , released digitally in 2020, consists of two studio outtakes from the previous album.
In 2022, he wrote the music for the radio drama Airstream, written by Sophie Merceron and Guillaume Bariou. This resulted in an EP released in 2022, accompanied by the drama on a vinyl edition .
I think its safe to conclude Vincent Dupas has more than a few genres under his belt – to get an idea what he was up to in 2019, press play and dive in. All good stuff.
