In case you missed it, yesterday (April 2nd) was the 140th birthday of Sergei Rachmaninoff – and if you want to get picky, March 28th also commemorated 70 years since his passing. A sort of 2-for-1 celebration going on this past week.

But in any event. It’s over to Moscow this week for one of the celebration concerts being given by Russian National Orchestra, guest conducted by Dmitry Liss and featuring Boris Berezovsky, piano (not to be confused with the currently dead Boris Berezovky of Questionable Circumstances fame).

Tonight it’s  piano concertos Number 1 and 4, and the Symphony Number 3.

A good time was had by all and Berezovsky tossed just about everything but the kitchen sink into this performance.

So here’s what’s on the players:

Russian National Orchestra

Dmitry LIss, Conductor

Boris Berezovsky, Piano

All Rachmaninoff Concert

Top Player:

1. Piano Concerto Nr. 1

2. Piano Concerto Nr. 4

Bottom Player:

1. Symphony Nr. 3

The concert was recorded this past March 23rd by Radio Orpheus.

Enjoy.
