A little over five minutes worth, but any Ruby J performance is a magical experience – whether it’s five minutes or five hours.
Happened across her quite by accident while combing through all the recent BBC Introducing entries the past few weeks. It took all of maybe 5 seconds to become completely hooked and enthralled by this dynamic, spell-binding and totally engaging new voice – a voice that has been capturing audiences everywhere she’s been playing, and in true stellar work-ethic and giving 110% energy, comes as no surprise that Ruby J has been widely acclaimed as “an artist to watch” over the coming weeks and months. She’s been blazing a trail this past Summer, doing a string of festival appearances throughout the UK with promises to be more far reaching over the coming year.
It’s only been in the past two yeas that Ruby J has made her presence known, but in that short period of time has managed to cover a lot of ground with gigging, busking and getting the word out. She’s been opening for artists and artists have been opening for her – this is the lovely spirit of collaboration and support that makes Music the powerful and essential art form it always has been. Further evidence we’re in good places, even though it’s not in the mainstream and Indie continues to be the most expansive and fertile genre capturing eyes and ears everywhere with no letup in sight.
This session is actually from two places – the first from her appearance in May of this year at The Cavern Club in Liverpool and the second via a session done for BBC Radio’s Introducing program Lounge earlier this month.
No doubt, there are more songs where those two performances came from and it would be something of a Public Service to make them available to the audience soon.
But in the meantime – we have five magic minutes with Ruby J as she was heard in May and just these past few days.
Dive in.
