Even the birds on this day were motivated not to go anywhere.

Savor the days where almost nothing happens, consider them gifts. June 1st was one of those days in 1968. Calm, slow, reasonably peaceful except maybe Vietnam and Paris – but if you were a certain age, the day went by practically unnoticed and it moved at a snails pace.

Especially if you lived in Santa Rosa California. Where’s that? It’s just north of San Francisco, smack in the middle of wine country.

On this particular June 1st in Santa Rosa it was heading in the direction of 90 degrees – heat wave. Air conditioner weather, even on the first day of June. The California primaries were a few days off – your radio is full of them. Presidents and State Senators and ballot initiatives; goes in one ear and out the other.

It’s staring off into space weather – it’s driving with the hood down weather. It’s watching a cluster of pigeons occupy power lines. It’s imagining yourself perched fifty feet off the ground, checking out the neighborhood and miles and miles of hills and you have not one single thing to do.

It’s one of those kinds of days – little do you know what’s just around the corner, but today life is taking a breather.

And the radio’s on – and it’s KSRO and it’s blending into the scenery – and you don’t mind.

So while you’re sleeping off the Turkey or wandering the kitchen with a turkey baster in your hand – here’s a 90 minute slice from KSRO in Santa Rosa – part of six hours from that day you’ll hear during the coming weeks. The day where almost nothing happened.

As long as we’ve got you here, excuse the arm twisting – it’s for a good cause.

Wow. Can’t believe it – 2024 is almost over already. Past Daily is still standing, still cranking out history and pop culture and still looking for your support. Fundraisers are pretty much tapped out this year – everybody seems to be doing them and even I’m sick of being hounded for money.

But the fact of the matter is – some of these things are expensive to pull off. In case you didn’t already know, Past Daily is an extension of my archive – the stuff I have collected since the beginning of time (it seems) – my goal is to share all of it with you, and since we’ve started there are over 11,000 posts which you, as a subscriber can explore and there are thousands more waiting.

Better still – once you subscribe you get notified every time we post something and you can download the audio file which you can’t do if you don’t subscribe. That’s the catch.

But it’s my way of saying Thank You for your support and helping me pay all the costs of keeping Past Daily up and running every day.

And subscribing is easy and painless – you can do it with Patreon – you can stretch it out over months, years or just today. You can do a trial subscription for 7 days and then you can either join us or go “no thanks” and life will continue.

But your support is critical. Over this past year we’ve resumed running ads – simply because it’s helping offset the costs we can’t get around, but don’t have enough subscribers to do away with ads completely (believe me, I hate ads just as much as the next person – maybe more). Right now, a little over 100 of you are foregoing a cup of Starbucks in favor of downloading a concert or a World War 2 newscast – and I am completely over-the-moon for your support. But we need more of you. We need 900 more to make a difference.

So all you have to do is click on the red banner below and make your pledge – you can also do Pay Pal or Buy Me A Coffee if you just want to do a one-time suppor

But however you decide to do it, we’re grateful. We’ll be here as long as you are.

We could use the company.

And of course, there’s always coffee. . .
