Dutch Wine
Dutch Wine – New bands out of Glasgow.

Dutch Wine at BBC Scotland’s Introducing – Tenement Trail festival – recorded in September.

This sojourn over to BBC Radio’s Introducing sites has been an education and an eye opener with a sampling of just how many new bands and artists are out there, just in the UK alone. I also run a series from RNE In Madrid which also features new bands and artists from Spain. And truths to tell, the amount of exposure new talent is getting all over Europe is truly incredible and it further proves the point we have nothing to complain about as to the current state of New Music in the world.

Anybody who tells you Music is dead hasn’t spent any time wandering around the Internet, finding this seemingly endless display of talent, of which a good 90% deserve repeat playing. We’re lucky. I can’t tell you how much different this would have all been had we been able to access bands this easy during the 60s.

But that’s then and this is now and I, for one, am grateful to be witnessing this. Gives me undying optimism that everything is going to work out.

Tonight it’s a set (well, an extended excerpt of a set) from Dutch Wine at this years Tenement Trail Festival in Glasgow – part of BBC Scotland’s Introducing series.

Dutch Wine are relatively recent. Having weathered the restrictions in place during COVID and still managed to release two singles in 2022, gathering enthusiastic press as well as a growing audience based on the singles selling very well.

The end of lockdown have seen the band fairly explode on the scene with touring and gigging going at fever-pitch. By the time they did Tenement Trail, they already had a following and the reception was something of a hero’s welcome.

Excellent band with a very bright future with a lot to say.

The only nitpicking I have is purely a technical one – you may notice backing vocals are a bit flat in places – my hunch is the culprit is the stage monitor mix which forces the singers to “guess they are in the right key” – happens all the time – anybody who tries to sing with a stage monitor that’s mixed too far down will tell you it’s a pain in the ass. That said – it shouldn’t deter you from enjoying a wonderful and energy-laden set from another band to keep an eye out for.

Enjoy.
