Cowz tonight – recorded in session for John Kennedy’s Exposure program on Radio X in London this past November.
“COWZ are a Brighton-based queer alt-pop duo with music that can only be described as “girl’s girl music with violent and political undertones”.
Blending elements of punk, pop and electronic sounds, the band have caused quite a stir in multiple areas of the industry. COWZ were founded 3 years ago by Saga Wahlström and Tasha Bloom, and their rapid rise to the top of alternative music is nothing less than overwhelmingly impressive. With a debut EP hitting over 100,000 streams within 3 months of release, DORK’s pick for Y NOT festival 2024 and Radio 6 play of their hit single ‘DOMINATION’, a COWZ set were not ones you wanted to miss.”
Cowz began their journey three years ago in 2021 in Brighton, England, and consists of the vivacious and alluring duo: Tasha Bloom and Saga Wahlström. Boldly hitting the scene with a big impact and making it look effortless- this dynamic duo is shaping up to be one of the most interesting, versatile and fun pop music acts from the UK in a very long time. They’re absolutely dripping with authenticity and their success is only a reflection of their brave explorations into the sometimes dark psyche of modern women. Don’t let the glitter fool you, things can get gorey.
Their music has been described as ‘Bubble-gum pop in dire need of therapy’ by Davide Wheller of Asbo magazine and ‘psychotic’ by Radio 1’s Jack Saunders but first and foremost their latest project ‘Thats cute! Baby’ is a pioneering force to be reckoned with and a girl-coded masterpiece. They’re scaring the men with this one and we’re here for it.
Their latest EP “That’s cute! Baby” is performing incredibly well for an early work with over 100k listens on spotify and the quality of work absolutely reflects that. Five bangers, no skips, no lack of depth whatsoever. There is something incredibly special about this duo and world domination is well within their reach. It’s an incredibly difficult feat to go so far against the grain without a compromise of listenability and Cowz hits every note. My personal favorite;- track five ‘Psychos’ is edgy and smooth at once. The marvelously bold yet charming hook “It’s not my fault you fall for psychos” has stuck with me from the first instance that I heard it. The production value on the entire project is mind-blowing, the engineering is radio ready, this charming and feisty duo are primed and ready to blow up into the stratosphere.
The above were a few quotes from Music Mondays and some enthusiastic reviews.
