No, it’s not a typo and they having nothing to do with Bob Dylan – they are Bob Vylan and they have been getting huge word of mouth ever since they got started in 2017.
Bob Vylan are a duo based in London who play a style merging elements of grime, punk rock and hip hop, Alternative Metal. The band was formed in 2017 by singer/guitarist Bobby Vylan and drummer Bobbie Vylan in Ipswich. The first concert followed just two weeks later.
In the first year of the band’s history, Bob Vylan released four singles and two EPs, Dread and Vylan, via the band’s own label, Ghost Theatre. Following the DIY principle, the musicians personally delivered their albums to various record stores and booked their own shows. Despite the fact that radio stations would refuse to play their music and the early articles about them in big magazines like Kerrang! were disparaging, the band stayed true to their ethos and steadily gained a large following of fans.
On 7 August 2020, the band released their debut album, We Live Here. Bob Vylan then toured supporting the Offspring and Biffy Clyro and performed at the Reading and Leeds Festivals in 2021.
On 22 April 2022, the band released their second studio album, Bob Vylan Presents the Price of Life, which entered the UK Albums Chart at number 18.
On 27 October 2023, the band released two singles from their upcoming studio album, Humble as the Sun. The album is scheduled for release on 5 April 2024.
The latest is this session from BBC 6 Music done for Craig Charles and broadcast on January 11th.
If you’re familiar – bypass the above and hit Play – if you aren’t, check them out – they are coming to the U.S. in May, so be on the lookout.
In the meantime, dive in – enjoy lunch!
It’s almost February already and Past Daily is still trudging along, looking for your support. We don’t run ads so we need contributors to keep us up and running. Costs even more now than it did this time last year. But we’re still offering you the best of what’s in the archive – yes, this is all from our Collection (except the sessions and concerts – gotta give credit where credit is due – BBC 6 Music and Radio X in London and RNE In Madrid are essential sources of finding new music) but everything is the result of yours truly digging into boxes, climbing over shelves, falling into dumpsters. It’s history, it’s important and it’s yours if you want it. All you have to do, if you’re up for it, is please subscribe via Patreon (that little box at the bottom of this post) – click on it and you’ll be taken to their site where you can subscribe to Past Daily, let them know how much you want to donate – or check us out for free, test drive our site, as it were, and decide to become part of the Past Daily experience. Simple, painless and we’ll love you for it. Do it if you can and you’ll be able to download your own copy of all our posts and new ones as they appear. Kind of cool, don’t you think? But you have to become a Patron in order to do it. Think about it – no pressure – honest – really . . no pressure. But there’s this landlord . . . .
