Coldplay – Glastonbury 2024 – Past Daily Morning Soundbooth

Coldplay
Chris Martin of Coldplay – getting 100,000 people to sing on time, on key and know all the words – further evidence there is a god.

Coldplay for a Wednesday morning. Recorded and broadcast live from the Pyramid Stage on June 29, 2024 by BBC Radio 2.

I’ve been remiss in not diving into the avalanche of festivals this year. There’s a lot of listening and sifting to do and I promise to get into the proverbial lock-back over the next few weeks.

Coldplay are huge – because of that, I initially was hesitant to run this show because they have such a high visibility, running them on Past Daily would seem like a moot point since they are practically everywhere and have been generating much press via some of the controversies that have stirred up this past year. The focus of the site has been to either run music that’s not familiar, or music that has a long past.

That said – in a year that has been jammed to capacity with divisiveness, negativity, paranoia and sheer hatred, running a concert by a band who are positive and well-loved just seemed like a good idea right about now.

It’s been a hell of a year so far, still with a third left to go. At the moment we can use anything that is even remotely upbeat and reviewing the first minute of this concert and listening to 100,000 people all singing in unison got me a little teary and hopeful we’re doing better than we think and maybe we’ll get through all of this.

A lot of people want to toss dampers on the likes of Coldplay and Taylor Swift – and they may not be on heavy rotation at my place – but anyone who brings out that much positivity and joy is doing a service to the human race. Thumbs up, Sighs and Namaste’s all around.

I would just suggest you cast aspersions aside for the next almost two hours – open a window, take a deep breath and know it’s all going to work out.

Music will always work wonders – it’s the glue that holds us together; no matter who – no matter what.

You got this.
